The pub was named after the Sneyd family, who had owned the Keele estate for more than 500 years and played a huge role in shaping the local area.

The Sneyds weren’t just landowners — they were central to village life. From farming and mining to helping establish what would later become Keele University, their influence is still felt today. In fact, much of the land where the university stands was once part of the Sneyd estate.
